Universiade-2013: 1 silver and 1 bronze medal

The 27th International Universiade wrestling matches have started in Kazan, Russia.

According to the program the freestyle wrestlers competed in 60, 74 and 96 kg categories on the first day of the tournament.

60 kg
Haji Aliyev
held his first match and won against the French wrestler Antoine Massy (8:0). However, he lost his second match to the Iranian sportsman Behnam Ehsanpur (2:0). Haji received another chance to compete for the bronze medal, as his rival reached the final. In the repechage match he won against the Mongolian wrestler Nemehbayar Batsaykhan (8:0). In the decisive match Haji Aliyev scored a brilliant victory against the Bulgarian wrestler Stefan Ivanov (7:0) and became the bronze medalist of the Universiade.

74 kg
Jabrayil Hasanov’s first rival was the Romanian wrestler Marius Atofan. Having won with the score 10:2, our wrestler passed to the 1/8 final. This time he competed against the Armenian sportsman Grigor Grigorian. With another victory (10:3), Jabrayil reached the ¼ final. In this round he had to compete against the Kyrgyz wrestler Innokenti Innokentev. After an intense match (4:4), victory was given to our wrestler. In the semifinal Jabrayil Hasanov wrestled against the Serbian representative Zaur Afandiyev. Scoring a victory (6:3), our wrestler reached the final, where he lost to the Russian sportsman Denis Chargush and won the silver medal of the tournament.

96 kg
Haji Sharifov joined the tournament from 1/8 final, where he won over the Armenian competitor Edgar Yenokyan (7:0). In the next round Haji competed and won against the Kyrgyz sportsman Mohammed Musayev (2:1). In the semifinal our wrestler lost to the Russian representative Abdusalam Gadisov. Haji Sharifov also lost to the Mongolian wrestler Khuderbulg Dorjkhand in the decisive match for the bronze medal and completed the Universiade in the fifth place.

We would like to remind that our wrestlers Aghahussein Mustafayev and Alexander Gostiyev ranked fifth on the first day of the wrestling tournament at the Universiade.
