The female wrestlers completed their bouts within the Junior World Wrestling Championship in Zagreb, Croatia.

In women’s wrestling our country was represented by Turkan Nasirova (44 kg), Shafag Muradzadeh (48 kg), Almaz Ismailova (51 kg), Solmaz Hashimzadeh (55 kg), Elmira Gambarova (63 kg), Ragnetta Gurbanzadeh (67 kg) and Sabira Aliyeva (72 kg) headed by Senior Coach Aslan Aghayev and Coach Hasrat Mammadyarov.

Our girls won 1 gold and 2 bronze medals and opened a new page in the history of Azerbaijani wrestling. This is the highest result our girls have achieved in the last 5 years. One should also consider the fact that women’s wrestling is a fairly new sports field in our country. It makes these achievements even more significant.

We would like to remind our readers that our young girls won their first gold medal in the World Championship in 2010. And in 2013 they completed the same event with 2 bronze medals. And during the last World Championship they brought home as many medals as they did in the previous two tournaments put together – 1 gold and 2 bronze medals.

With this result our national team ranked third in team rankings after Japan and Russia.
