3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals on the first day of the Paris Grand Prix

The second international Paris Grand Prix has started in Paris, capital of France. All of our three wrestling teams are participating at the tournament.

The female wrestlers competed in 48, 55, 60 and 69 kg weight classes, Greco-Romans in 66, 71, 80 and 98 kg weight classes and freestylers wrestled in 57, 65, 74 and 97 kg categories on the first day of the tournament.

Our women won 2 silver medals on the first day. Alyona Kolesnik(55 kg) and Natalia Sinishin(60 kg) lost their final bouts only and became the silver medalists of the championship.

Our Greco-Roman wrestlers completed the day with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal. Our representative in 80 kg weight class, Elvin Mursaliyev, overcame all his rivals. He won against representatives from Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden with full superiority and became the gold medalist of the tournament. Kamran Mammadov, 66 kg, proved to be stronger than wrestlers from Portugal, Hungary, Austria and Poland and reached the final round, where he wrestled against another Polish representative, but lost this time. He had to do with a silver medal of the tournament. Orkhan Nuriyev(98 kg) started off with a victory against the Austrian wrestler, but lost to the Estonian representative in his next bout. As his rival reached the final round, Orkhan received second chance to fight for a bronze medal. Our wrestler won ahead of time against the Swedish representative Robert Avanesyan in the decisive match and thus became the bronze winner of the grand prix.

Our freestyle wrestlers won 2 gold and 2 bronze medals on the first day of the Paris Grand Prix. Mohammed Muslumov in 65 kg and the Olympic Champion Sharif Sharifov in 97 kg won against all their opponents and won the gold medals of the tournament. Mohammed Muslumov consequently won against a sportsman from China and 4 wrestlers from the USA and reached the final round. And in the final bout our wrestler gave no chances to his Iranian rival. Our Olympic champion Sharif Sharifov won against wrestlers from Canada and Kyrgyzstan and from Iran in the final and won the highest prize of the tournament. And the bronze medalists of the team were Haji and Yashar Aliyev brothers. Haji Aliyev (65 kg) won against the Hungarian sportsman in the decisive match and Yashar Aliyev (57 kg) scored a victory against his team mate Mirjalal Hasanzadeh.

Thus, our wrestlers completed the first day of the Paris Grand Prix international tournament with 9 medals – 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze.
