3 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals from the “Champions” Tournament / PHOTO

The 17th “Champions” international junior tournament was held in Izmir, Turkey. The members of our junior female and Greco-Roman wrestling teams participated at the tournament. Our wrestlers completed the competition with 3 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals.

Our wrestlers, who joined the competition on the first day of the tournament, performed very well. Our junior females won 1 gold and 1 bronze medal. The champion was Ragnetta Gurbanzadeh (67 kg) and Solmaz Hashimzadeh won a bronze medal (55 kg).

Our Greco-Roman wrestlers also completed the day with 1 gold and 1 bronze medal. In 66 kg weight class Ruhin Mikayilov won against all his rivals and became the gold medalist of the tournament. Our representative in 55 kg weight class Ramiz Mammadov won a bronze medal.

Our junior female wrestlers won 2 silver and 1 bronze medalson the second day of the tournament. AlmazIsmayilova (51 kg) and Elmira Gambarova (63 kg) lost only in the final round and became silver medalists of the tournament. Our sportswoman in 72 kg category Sabira Aliyeva won a bronze medal.

In Greco-Roman wrestling our sportsmen won 1 gold and 1 bronze medal on the second day of the tournament. Our representative in 84 kg category Islam Abbasov was stronger and more skillful than all his rivals and thus became the champion of the tournament. In the most heavyweight class (120 kg) Hajimurad Chopsiyev won a bronze medal.

Thus, having won 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals our junior female wrestlers ranked third in team ranking after Turkey and Kazakhstan. And our Greco-Roman wrestlers completed the tournament with 2 gold and 2 bronze medals.

International referee Khanmirza Malikaliyev represented our country as a judge at the tournament.
