Azerbaijani team became the winner of the “Nakhchivan Cup” tournament / PHOTO-VIDEO

The traditional international “Nakhchivan Cup” junior freestyle wrestling tournament dedicated to the 91st birthday of the national leader HeydarAliyev was held at the Olympic Sports Complex in Nakhchivan.

Teams from Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan, Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine participated at the tournament. The championship was of team character and teams competed in two subgroups. Subgroup A included teams of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, whereas the national teams of Nakhchivan, Russia, Georgia and Ukraine competed in subgroup B.

The winners of their own subgroups, the Azerbaijani and Ukrainian teams then wrestled in the final round. Our wrestlers performed better than their opponents and won the highest prize of the tournament. The Ukrainian team ranked second. And the winner of the bronze medal was to be determined in the match between Russia and Kazakhstan. The Russian team won with the score 5:3 and became the bronze medalist of the “Nakhchivan Cup” international tournament.    

The top three teams were awarded with medals, diplomas and money prizes by Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
