Freestyle and Greco-roman wrestling traditional international tournament Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Cup among cadets and juniors kick-off in Baku Sport Hall.

Together with  Azerbaijan athletes of Tadjikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Russia, Turkey, Iran, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Belarus compete at the tournament.

In the first day of the competition competed overall 122 Greco-roman athletes.

At the opening ceremony of the tournament took a speech head of sport department of Ministry of Youth and Sport (MYS) Farid Mansurov and vice-president of Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Elchin Jafarov.

Taking a speech head of sport department of the Ministry of Youth and Sport, Olympic and twofold world champion Farid Mansurov told how popular wrestling in our country and about interest of youngsters to this sport discipline. He also talked about attention and care to the sport including wrestling by the government. Head of department noted that wrestlers worthily come up with the expectations. Farid Mansurov wished best of luck to participants of the competitions.

The vice-president of AWF delivered to sportsmen best regards of the president of the federation Fazil Mammadov. He told that there is a big rivalry among cadets and juniors in Azerbaijan and noted that new and worthily generation grows up who in the future will take part in the main national team. The official of the federation stressed importance of conducting such tournaments. The vice-president told about important role of the tournaments in increasing experience and revealing the best wrestlers. E.Jafarov stressed that winners would compete in the squad of the national teams in forthcoming international competitions. He wished participants of the competitions healthy rivalry.

National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was sounded and competitions were declared open.

Then began festive part of the ceremony. Following this artists performed songs and were shown various dance numbers.

Following the ceremony competitions continued.

Members of our national teams completed first day gaining 3 gold, 1 silver and 7 bronze medals. Gold medal to our team brought Hasrat Jafarov (42 kg), Zaur Aliyev (46 kg) and Javidan Javadov (63 kg).

In team classification Azerbaijan first, Iran second, Georgia team finished third.
