The Final “Golden Grand Prix” international wrestling tournament dedicated to the national leader Heydar Aliyev will be held in Baku, on 25-27 July. Our teams are training hard for the tournament and held open training sessions for the media. The General Secretary of Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Ajdar Jafarov also watched the training. He takes much interest in the team’s preparations and agreed to answer the journalists’ questions.

- Mr. Jafarov, are you satisfied with how the training camps are going?

- Yes, I am. All the conditions have been created for our wrestlers to train well. Our national female wrestling team is at a training camp in Ukraine. And our freestyle wrestling team held the first stage of their training in Khachmaz Olympic Sports Complex. They are continuing their training in Baku, at the Olympic Wrestling Center.

- We would like for you to share your views on the tournament.

- 39 countries have confirmed their participation at the tournament. After the European and World Championships, this tournament is one of the most significant ones in the FILA calendar plan. This is the 7thtime the tournament is held and it has become a tradition of sorts. FILA has delegated us to hold the tournament until 2016. I would say that this tournament is organized on a high Olympics level.

- What results do you expect from our sportsmen at the tournament?

- In general at all tournaments our wrestlers are set to reach highest results. I think that they are able to do so. I believe that our wrestlers will worthily represent our country at the “Golden Grand Prix” international wrestling tournament dedicated to the national leader HeydarAliyev.

- Wrestlers from other countries have been often joining the training camps of the Azerbaijani wrestlers lately. How would you comment that?

- Certainly it has become possible to hold such significant tournaments in Azerbaijan thanks to President IlhamAliyev’s attention and care, especially to sports. The governmental care for wrestling allows our sportsmen to be more and more successful in the international arena. At the same time, the Federation administration is also very attentive towards our wrestlers. The President of the Federation FazilMammadov and the 1st Vice-President NamikAliyevhave created all the conditions for our sportsmen. It is not a coincidence that Azerbaijan is in the top three in world wrestling ratings. Sportsmen from other countries also want to hold training camps with our wrestlers and learn from their experience.

- Will all the titled wrestlers take part in the tournament?

- Not only our titled wrestlers, but also the best wrestlers from other countries are expected to participate at the tournament. Our Olympic Champion ToghrulAsgarov has had a knee surgery in Turkey. At the moment he is going through a rehabilitation process. The federation also keeps an eye on him, like all the other wrestlers. Other than that, Sharif Sharifov has fully recovered and has joined the training camp. He will participate at the “Golden Grand Prix” international tournament. Our titled Greco-Roman wrestlers, such as RovshanBayramov, EminAhmadov, Hasan Aliyev, to name a few, will also join the competition. Their participation in this tournament will of sorts be a preparation for the upcoming World Championship. I hope that all of them achieve great results.

- What are your expectations from the tournament?

- Very strong sportsmen will compete at the “Golden Grand Prix” international tournament, dedicated to the national leader HeydarAliyev. As you know, the Federation allocates a big money prize for the winners of the tournament. All sportsmen aim at victory in this tournament. The wrestling fans are in for some interesting bouts.
