Our girls rank 5th in World Cup / PHOTO-VIDEO

The senior women’s wrestling World Cup tournament is held in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Besides Azerbaijani wrestlers, the teams from Japan, Poland, USA, Russia, Ukraine, Mongolia and Sweden are also participating at the tournament.

According to the results of the draw, the Azerbaijani wrestlers competed against the teams from Japan, Poland and the USA in group A. Russia, Ukraine, Mongolia and Sweden wrestled in group B.

Our wrestlers held their first round of bouts against the team from the USA. Despite the overall draw of 4:4, our team lost for lacking behind in technical points. The next round finished with a score of 5:3 in our girls’ favor. The last round of bouts was held against the strong Japanese team and our girls had to take a loss of 5:3. According to the results of these bouts, our team finished the group matches in 3rd place. In group bouts Marisa Stadnik showed the best results among the members of our team. She won all 3 of her matches. YuliyaRatkevich and Irina Netreba both won 2 out of 3.

Thus, according to the results of group matches, our national team fought for the 5th place against the 3rd place team of group B, Ukraine. The overall score was 4:4, however this time the victory was given to our team in technical points and our girls ranked 5th in the World Cup tournament. This is so far the best result for our girls in their World Cup history. They have competed in the World Cup only twice (2010 and 2012) until now.
