JWC-2013 first day: Elman Mukhtarov and Jeyhun Aliyev win bronze medals / PHOTO

The Junior World Wrestling Championship has started in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Greco-Roman wrestlers in 50, 60, 74 and 96 kg categories competed on the first day of the championship. Our wrestlers completed the day with 2 bronze medals.

50 kg
Ramiz Mammadov
started off with a victory against Kazakhstan’s Nurjan Satmaganbet (6:5) in the 1/8 final. After having scored a confident victory against Georgia’s Irakli Shavadze (8:0), our wrestler reaches the semifinal, where he lost to Ukraine’s Oleksandr Trifonov. After a tight bronze medal match against Romania’s Aleksandru Botez (7:7), the victory was given to the rivaling wrestler and Ramiz Mammadov finished the championship in the fifth place.

60 kg
Elman Mukhtarov
as well started the tournament from 1/8 final. Having scored a victory against Hungary’s Mate Krazsna (9:3), Elman reached the ¼ final. A victory against Kyrgyzstan’s Urmatbek Amatov (6:1) secured a spot for Elman in the semifinal. However, he lost to the Armenian wrestler Karen Aslanyan and wrestled for the bronze medal. He became the bronze medalist of the tournament after a victory against the Russian sportsman Artur Suleymanov (1:0).

74 kg
In the 1/8 final Jeyhun Aliyev scored a brilliant victory against his Latvian rival Sergei Mironovs (8:0). In the ¼ final our wrestler won against Kazakhstan’s Abunassir Omirzak (6:0) and reached the semifinal, where he lost to Ukraine’s Andrei Antonyuk. In the decisive match for the bronze medal, Jeyhun Aliyev scored a victory against Kyrgyzstan’s Samat Shirdakov and completed the tournament on the third place.

96 kg
In the 1/16 final Tural Dashdemirov scored a confident victory against China’s Mingjian Gu (4:0). However, in the 1/8 final our wrestler lost to Iran’s Seidmustafa Seidganbar Salehizadeh (2:5) and had to finish the tournament early.

Our Greco-Roman wrestling team, second best in Europe, is competing the first two days of the championship headed by Senior Coach Shaba nDonat and Coach Akif Aliyev. The team includes Ramiz Mammadov (50 kg), Sakit Guliyev (55 kg), Elman Mukhtarov (60 kg), Ruhin Mikayilov (66 kg), Jeyhun Aliyev (74 kg), Orkhan Nuriyev (84 kg), Tural Dashdemirov (96 kg) and Abbas Abdullayev (120 kg).
