Women wrestlers in 63 and 67 kg and freestyle wrestlers in 55 kg classes joined the world championship in Moscow on the fifth day of the competition. Our national team won its first medal in freestyle wrestling as Togrul Asgarov (55 kg) won silver.
55 kg - Togrul Asgarov beat Ndive Molua Henri Moki (Cameroon) (6:0, 7:0), Naranbaatar Bayara (Kazakhstan) (4:2, 3:0, touche), Rizvan Haciyev (Belarus), (3:0, 5:0), and Japan’s Yasukhiro Inabu (6:0, 1:1, 3:1) in the semi-final. In the final bout, Togrul Asgarov was beaten by Russia’s Viktor Lebedev (0:1, 3:0, 0:1), thus winning silver in his first world championship.
63 kg - Nadya Sementsova beat Odonchimey Badratx (Mongolia) (1:0, 1:0) in the last 16, but in the last eight she was beaten by Kazakhstan’s Yelena Saligin, preserving a chance for a bronze medal. However, in the bronze-medal bout our wrestler was injured and had to stop the fight, settling for fifth place.
67 kg - Zumrud Qurbanhaciyeva was beaten in the last 32 by Oheneva Akuffo (Canada). Her opponent advanced all the way to the final, thus giving Zumrud a chance for winning bronze, but she was beaten again.
