Cadet wrestlers competed at 20 January’s martyr tournament / PHOTO

20 January martyr Mushvig Isayev cadets’ international 19th rememberance tournament was held in Hovsan Olympic Sport Complex.

First participants of the tournament going to the Honourable Alley paid a visit to the tomb of the nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev laid wreath and flowers to the monument. Memory of the remarkable ophthalmologist, scientist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva was honoured as well.    

Afterwards at the Alley of Victims was honoured memory of people sacrificing their lives for the freedom and independence of our country.

Then was held opening ceremony. Taking speech the senior councilor of the Ministry of Youth and Sport Tofig Eyvazov stressed that sport is rapidly developing in Azerbaijan. Official stated that as a result of the caress and attention to sport by the head of the state, president of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev all sport disciplines in our country are being developed and the joyful fact that wrestling has its specific place in this row.

The vice-president of Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Namig Abdullayev that wrestling throughout the history was one of the wide spreading sport disciplines. For the last years the capital of our country Baku turned to one of the sport centers of the world. Namig Abdullayev highly prized the importance of the competition and told about achievements of our athletes gaining last year and wished best of luck to attendants. Afterwards was sounded national anthem of Azerbaijan Republic.

On the tournament organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sport, National Olympic Committee and Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation overall 134 wrestlers from cities and regions of our country as well as Russia and Georgia competed for the medals of the tournament. In accordance with the existing rules of the United World Wrestling winners were determined in 10 weighting categories. Our cadets remembered with successful performance. So our sportsmen were winners in 7 weighting categories. Russian wrestlers gained 2 and Georgian team 1 gold medal.
