5 gold and 2 bronze medals from Bulgaria

The 52nd “Dan Kolov-Nikola Petrov” international tournament has finished in Sofia, Bulgaria. The members of our freestyle wrestling team completed the tournament with 5 gold and 2 bronze medals.

Haji Aliyev (61 kg) competed on the first day of the tournament and managed to beat all his rivals. Thus, he became the proud owner of a gold medal. He consequently won against wrestlers from Algeria, Armenia, Bulgaria and Turkey.

In 74 kg category Jabrayi lHasanov won a bronze medal.

3 of our wrestlers joined the tournament on the second day.

Hamzat Osmanov (86 kg) and Jamaladdin Mohammedov (125 kg) won against all their rivals and brought a gold medal each for the national team. Hamzat consequently won against wrestler from Algeria, two rivals from Poland and a Turkish sportsman in the final. Jamaladdin Mohammedov competed against two Bulgarian wrestlers. He then won against an Armenian wrestler and the Ukrainian representative in the final.

In 57 kg category Ruslan Surkhayev became a bronze medalist and he won against a Japanese wrestler in the decisive medal match.

On the last of the tournament wrestlers essayed powers in 65, 70 and 97 kg weight classes. Ruslan Dibirhajiyev (70 kg) and our Olympic Champion Sharif Sharifov (97) both wrestled on the last day. They both demonstrated confident wrestling and reached final easily. Having won the final matches as well, both Ruslan and Sharif became the gold medalists of the tournament.

The Olympic and World Champion Sharif Sharifov was awarded with a cup for being the most skilled freestyle wrestler of the tournament.

8 wrestlers of our national team competed at the tournament headed by the Head Coach Semyon Chterev, Senior Coach Firdovsi Umudov and Coach David Kurtsiya.

The international referee Abdul Nuriyev represented our country as a judge at the tournament.
