Azerbaijan Championship among cadets to start soon

Azerbaijan Cadet freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling championship will be held on 19-21 May at “Sarhadchi” Sports Olympic Center.

The main purpose of the tournament is to promote and develop wrestling throughout the country, improve the training and practice processes at sports organizations across the country and invite the top three sportsmen in corresponding age group to join the national teams.

According to the United World Wrestling rules, the wrestlers will compete in 42, 46, 50, 54, 58, 63, 69, 76, 85 and 100 kg weight classes at the tournament.  

The freestyle and Greco-Roman qualification tournaments have already been held across the representations to find out who will progress to the championship. The wrestlers, who won at their corresponding representations, have gained the right to participate at Azerbaijan Championship according to allowed number of wrestlers.

Overall 1285 cadet wrestlers competed at the qualification tournaments held across Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation representations. 743 out of them competed in freestyle wrestling and 542 essayed their powers in Greco-Roman. 195 freestyle and 180 Greco-Roman wrestlers have been selected from 8 AWF representations to participate at Azerbaijan Championship.

According to the program of the championship the Greco-Roman wrestlers will compete in 42, 46, 50, 54, 58 and 63 kg weight classes on 19 May. Greco-Roman wrestlers will essay their powers in 69, 76, 85 and 100 kg weight classes and freestylers in 42, 46 and 50 kg categories on 20 May. And we will find out the winners among freestyle wrestlers in 54, 58, 63, 69, 76, 85 and 100 kg classes on the last day of the championship.
