The Senior Wrestling European Championship continues in Vantaa, Finland.

Freestylers wrestled in 57 and 61 kg weight classes and female wrestlers competed in 53 and 60 kg categories. Our sportsmen completed the day with 1 gold medal.

In 57 kg weight class Galib Aliyev competed against Monaco’s Gennady Tulbea. Even if our wrestler was in the lead by 6 to 5, he then lost after a counter attack by his rival. He could not take advantage of the repechages either, so he completed the championship without a medal.

In 61 kg category Haji Aliyev demonstrated pure confidence. He won against Alexander Semisorov (Germany) in 1/8 final with the score 14:4 and against Georgia’s BekaLomtadze in 1/4 final with the score 12:6. After a very tight bout against Ukraine’s Vasil Shuptar in the semifinal, Haji won with the score 9:7 and found himself in the final. This time he wrestled against the Russian representative Bekkhan Goygerev. With another victory of 12:5, Haji became the European Champion.

In female wrestling Patimat Bagomedova (53 kg) won against Laura Mertens (Germany) in the 1/8 final with the score 7:2. However, our wrestler then lost to Greece’s Maria Prevolaraki in the 1/4 final. As her rival reached the final, Patimat joined the repechages and scored a brilliant victory against Italy’s Francesca Mori (10:0). She wrestled against the Romanian sportswoman Anna Paval in the decisive match. Although the score was even, our wrestler lost the match due to a warning she had received.

In 60 kg Yuliya Ratkevich won against Hungary’s RamanoGalambosh in 1/8 final with the score 6:2. However, our wrestler then lost to Taybe Yusein (Bulgaria) in 1/4 final with the score 4:8 and was eliminated from the tournament.
