EC-2013 first day: Elman won a silver, Ramiz a bronze medal / UPDATED

The European Junior Wrestling Championship has started in Skopje, Macedonia.

Our junior Greco-Roman wrestlers in 50, 60, 74 and 96 kg categories wrestled on the first day of the championship. Our wrestlers won 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.

50 kg
Ramiz Mammadov joined the competition from 1/8 final and wrestled against the Russian sportsman, Batir Bultayev, in his first match. Having won with the absolute advantage (8:0), Ramiz Mammadov, however, could not repeat his success against the Georgian wrestler Irakli Shavadze (0:6) in the ¼ final. Our wrestler received another chance to fight for the bronze medal as his rival reached the final. In the decisive match Ramiz Mammadov wrestled against the Turkish representative, Yasin Karadashli. Having won with the score 8:4, our wrestler became the bronze medalist of the European Championship.

60 kg
The winner of the Singapore Cadet Olympics, Elman Mukhtarov, joined the competition from 1/16 final. He consequently won over his Finish rival Jerry Pitkanen (6:1) and Croatian rival Kristian Simatich (6:1). He then gave no chances to the German wrestler, Deniz Menekshe, in the ¼ final match (5:0). On the way to the final, he wrestled against the Georgian representative Kvicha Tchitavan (4:1). He then competed against the Russian wrestler Artur Suleymanov in the final. Having lost to his rival with the score 7:1, Elman Mukhtarov won the silver medal of the tournament.

74 kg
Hajimurad Baghmanov competed against the Russian wrestler Adlan Akiyev in the 1/8 final, however the match was not successful for our sportsman (0:4). As his rival reached the final, our wrestles received a chance to join the repechage match. Having taken advantage of such opportunity, Hajimurad Baghmanov scored a victory against the Hungarian Eric Silvassi. In the decisive match for the bronze medal he had to compete against the Georgian wrestler Lasha Gobadze. However, Hajimurad could not succeed.

96 kg
Ali Hasanov as well joined the tournament from 1/8 final. He had to win against the Hungarian wrestler Zkolt Torok in order to pass to the next round, however he could not succeed (2:7). Even if he received another chance to compete for the bronze medal in the repechage matches, Ali could not take advantage of this opportunity.
