8 medals gained by our free-style wrestlers in the European Championship

The free-style cadet wrestlers’ competitions in European Championship held in Katovitse city of Poland were finished. The Azerbaijani athletes have gained several medals in the second day of competition.

Anvarbay Dalgatov competing on the weight category of 63 kg defeating the wrestlers from Israeli, Latvia and Ukraine was qualified for final and in the decisive meeting scoring a victory on the athlete from Bulgaria ranked first.

Mahammadhaji Mukhtarov competing on the weight category of 76 kg scored victories on the wrestlers from Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Turkey but being defeated in the match for a gold medal by the Russian wrestler and ranked second.

Elchin Valiyev, competing on the weight category of 54 kg has added a bronze medal to our collection of medals.

It is to be noted that the first day of the free-style wrestlers’ competitions, 5 athletes of our national team have gained medals. Ruslan Surkhayev competing on the weight category of 50 kg scoring a victory in the final match on his rival from Turkey became a European champion. Joshgun Mammadov, Jahid Hasanzade and Chermen Bagayev competing on the weight categories of 42, 58 and 85 kg were defeated only in the final match and gained silver medals. Shamil Sadullayev, competing on the weight category of 69 kg gained a bronze medal.

So, due to 2 gold, 4 silver and bronze medals gained by our wrestlers, the Azerbaijani national team has collected 78 points as Russian team it ranked second after Russia, which ranked first by the number of gold medals. The first three places were occupied by Ukrainian team with 48 points.

Today, the cadet female wrestlers will start the competition in the European championship.
